When I look back on my childhood, two people stand out as my greatest pillars of care and affection: my sister and my mother. I often wonder what stories they hold of those days. For me, childhood feels like a patchwork quilt—some parts vivid, others a little hazy.
But certain moments are unforgettable.
I still remember being swept away by the Karnali River after my friends convinced me to swim there.
I still remember nearly blinding myself while trying to split a log.
The scar on my leg tells the story of the time I tried to handle a heavy axe.
And how could I forget the toughest wound of all—the one life gave me when I fled to India? That chapter carved itself deep into my soul.
India tested me but gave me courage. The unwavering trust of villagers back home fueled my spirit. It gave me the strength to move to Kathmandu, where I’ve learned so much. Yet, with all I’ve experienced, I still lack the courage to return to my roots—and I’m not even sure I’m content with where I’ve arrived.
You see, I come from a community where dreams rarely extend beyond the horizon. We tread carefully, fearing each solitary step. Dissatisfaction is met with silence, resignation, and a quiet acceptance of fate.
Even so, deep in my heart, I yearn to return. If Kathmandu doesn’t steal my fire, if I don’t let greed or apathy seep in, I hope to go back someday. I dream of standing by my parents—not as the person who fled, but as someone ready to give back.
My father was my guide—sharing with me his dreams, regrets, and lessons from life. But much of what I know now, I’ve gathered on my own—through observation, participation, and relationships.
For almost a decade, I poured my energy into journalism and multimedia. Storytelling, filming, photography—these became my mediums for expression. When I began studying English for my Bachelor’s, a love for literary writing awakened in me. I started crafting poems and stories, immersing myself in the verses of Nepal’s finest poets, and reciting their poetry with passion. This led me to explore my own poetic voice, blending it with my storytelling.
Poetry, in particular, holds a special place in my heart. It’s a way to connect deeply with others, to bring emotions to life, and to preserve the beauty of language.
